Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. When her father's divorce from her family, she was grew to maturity by her mother, grandparents, and godparents. In her childhood Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford began to be interested in acting when she was a teenager and joined the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she wasn't a good fit. Ford applied again to Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth attempt she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however, by that time she already had made her debut on television in a 1991 episode in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". During the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate also performed regularly at the theater, ultimately being a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedies, that were added to Tate's repertoire in 1996.
